Boddy/Snowden Scholarship

A longtime resident of Sandy Spring once said,

"Sandy Spring is more than a place to live. It is a state of mind."

Mr. Ross Boddy and Mrs. Carolyn Snowden, are well-known in the Sandy Spring community for their contributions to its residents, young and old.

The spirit of this remark is evident in the decades of work with youth, the elderly, the disabled, and working families. Two Sandy Spring residents, Mr. Ross Boddy and Mrs. Carolyn Snowden, are well-known in the Sandy Spring community for their contributions to its residents, young and old.

In their honor, the Sandy Spring Civic Association awards the annual Ross Boddy/Carolyn Snowden Scholarship to a graduating senior of a local high school in Sandy Spring and/or its surrounding community.

Students who wish to apply for the Boddy/Snowden Scholarship can get the recent scholarship information and application form from their high school counselors or by emailing us.

Sandy Spring Civic Association Scholarship Recipients

The Sandy Spring Civic Association is proud to recognize this year’s scholarship recipients—students whose academic achievement, leadership, resilience, and commitment to service reflect the very best of our community. Their stories demonstrate why continued support for the Scholarship Fund is so meaningful: every contribution helps open doors for talented young people as they pursue higher education and prepare to make a lasting impact.

Jayden Alexis Tulloch

Jayden has demonstrated strong academic achievement, while also developing a deep commitment to advocacy and community care. After experiencing a racial incident, Jayden transformed that challenge into purpose by participating in retreats, peaceful protests, and workshops focused on uplifting the Black community. Jayden’s passion for advocacy has shaped ambitious educational and career goals, including the creation of a program that would provide free supplies to historically underserved communities in maternal health. Jayden is attending Towson University.

Mieraf Haile

Mieraf has achieved outstanding academic success with a deep dedication to education and is especially notable as the President of Women in STEM. Mieraf created a hands-on program that encouraged young girls to explore science and technology, partnered with University of Virginia’s All Girls Stem Society and increased club membership by 40%. Mieraf has remained focused, disciplined, and determined and plans to fund college through scholarships and loans to help ease the burden. Mieraf is attending the University of Notre Dame.

Shuvashree Ghimire

Shuvashree has combined academic achievement with exceptional leadership and service. As founder of Aiding Girls Reach Education, Shuvashree built a nonprofit dedicated to expanding educational access for girls in rural Ethiopia, recruiting more than 60 international volunteers, raising $4,000 for school supplies, and developing a tutoring program that served more than 350 students ages 8 to 17. The program distributed backpacks filled with school materials and contributed to measurable literacy gains, including an average 78% improvement in literacy scores. Shuvashree has also supported transfer and immigrant students as a Sherwood High School ambassador by providing Amharic translation. Shuvashree is attending Coastal Carolina University.

As we look ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, the Sandy Spring Civic Association invites members, neighbors, local businesses, and community partners to contribute to the Scholarship Fund. Donations directly support promising students like Jayden, Mieraf, and Shuvashree—students who are already leading, serving, and striving to build a stronger community.
